We were both a little curious or scared
A little furious or unprepared
A little too serious or just unaware
How we were going to learn to care
For someone so foreign
we could only wonder and stare
I thought I had the correct perspective
Was sure I had it all dissected
And knew where all the parts went
Until I Stumble upon the very heart of it
And saw all those struggles you had to go through
And all those burdens you carried that I never had to
I caught a glimpse of the road you came here by
Noticed how your calluses and scars never lied
And like a detective’s epiphany
I was brought to a terribly wonderful reality
that changed something in myself
and I won’t easily forget just how that felt
This kind of science leaves a sort of aching
Makes me more reliant before praying
Makes me start doing before even saying
Makes me think a little longer before ever complaining
Well you’ve got my full attention
Whatever it is that I can do
I’m here and I'm listening
God knows I’m better now
from knowing you

Well it’s a sick trick when your mind twists and trips
Over your heart and unto your lips
Hope that girl gets I’ve been storing up a list
Of things I‘ve been burstin to spill
Dear Prudence,
Still waiting for the right time to tell
Cause her hair is like costly mulberry silk
And her eyes are like the grandest sunrise
You know the kind you catch yourself staring at for too long
For fear of running into to someone
Dear Soul,
We all know you can go on and on -can’t you boy
Well I’m not worried no I got enough faith,
I'm not trying to rush it or start a debate
Cause I know what I want
And it’s a win win for all involved
Beause I could never be unkind to her
No, cherish and adore are the two words for
Describing how I’d tried treat her forever
So dear Prudence
Dear Soul
And Dear Providence
if you’ve got the plan,
You know I’ve got the patience

Phantom Limb

The first day we met
I knew wed be friends
We both loved the noise others condemned
Worked on songs past 3 am
Scratching them out with pencil and pen
on stage we felt love from the crowd
At one point that’s what we were all about
Pushing back that leering doubt
telling us we didn’t stand a chance
Every part of our body wants to be with you again
Every body you left wants to be with you again
And when i finally make it home…
i’ll be looking for you wherever the music is played…
When i heard how you left us
It was hard to believe
Felt like coming to, in a strange room,
Freshly amputeed
Sometimes i’m surprised
Then sad with pain again
When I realize you’re gone
Like a phantom limb
Every part of our body wants to be with you again
Every body you left wants to be with you again
And when i finally make it home…
i’ll be looking for you wherever the music is played
And when i finally make it home…
i’ll be looking for you wherever the songs are made
i’ll be looking for you wherever the songs are made
i’ll be looking for you wherever the songs are made

Go Low

Break me down
Show me all the places I feel I deserve some sort of crown
Cause I'm well aware I can be a stubborn clown
But Your words -they quench my thirst
So fulfilling and profound
I’ve fallen in love with the sound
That reminds me that your love is always around
Can you hear them falling down
Along with those chains to the ground
And when I hear of war
I take a silent inventory of all of these luxuries
In my safe secure little world
if I am here to reap peace
Then I know I need to sow
What's been given so graciously
Seeds of humility for majestic trees
For food for shade for generations after me
Can your hear the seeds falling down
Along with those chains to the ground
"Hear the summons night and day
Calling us to come away.
From the heights we leap and flow
To the valleys down below.
Sweetest urge and sweetest pain,
To go low... and.rise again" - Hind's Feet on High Places (pg 78)
Can your hear the seeds falling down
Along with those chains to the ground

I was listing all the things I wanted.
I was picturing how I’d like it to end
Yet the more I tried to hold on to,
The more slipped through my hands
I was burning the candle at both ends.
Pushing through to complete all those plans
Praised for my tenacious ambition
Forgetting why the gift was ever even given
I want learn how to give it away before it’s stolen from me.
I want to learn to let it go before it pulls me down
I’m glad now that you put me through such a run around
Cause next time I’ll spot the slow death from far enough away
I’d rather shed the disrespect and invest in what I can appreciate
Whatever happens happens I’ve learned this lesson
The greatest equation... seventy times seven
I want learn how to give it away before it’s stolen from me.
I want to learn to let it go before it pulls me down
Gotta love those paradigms that sucker punch and blindside
Only constants not reckoned for what they really were.
Something else you leaned on was stripped away but you live on. More whole and whole lot more aware
How depending on mere variables
makes powerful people like reeds tossed about in the air
I’m just a poor wayfaring traveler
In need to stay light so I can get there
So I say good bye just this one last time but only...
To remind me of all those silly little things
that had a hold on me and how I am
one step closer
to being free.

Scavenger King

You’ve got to understand I am a man with a plan
You see trash where I see treasure see its all in how you measure
You see pails of mess. To me, their my treasure chests
This ain't no spree son it’s a journey it’s a quest
And its all mine for the taking. All mine for the remaking
all mine for the redeeming from where its been
I am a scavenger king
Prince of pieces of discarded things
Lord of all that’s scratched and dinged
And every morning in my dominion is spring
You’d probably throw me away if you could
Amongst the rubble, twisted metal, and wood
Amongst the tarnish, mold, and the rust
But don't they serve as memorials of your unfulfilled lusts
I am a scavenger king
Prince of pieces of discarded things
Lord of all that’s scratched and dinged
And every morning in my dominion is spring
I am a scavenger king
Prince of pieces of discarded things
Lord of all that’s scratched and dinged
And every morning in my dominion is spring
So when you see with a cart
You should know its all art
A cast aside makes a good gift for a bride
Cause a master of plaster can undo all disaster
And a new coat of faith turns this fallen to a saint
